January 1, 2021

Happy New Year!   Welcome 2021!  I can honestly say, I have been looking forward to this new year more than any other one.    Hope the new year finds you safe, healthy and strong.

When you think of a new year, you might think of a fresh start and New Year’s resolutions. What are some of your resolutions this year? I hope it will include making some time for self-care for parents/guardians and creating time with your children.   I think one of the best ways of spending time together is reading.   Some of my best conversations and memories with my son in elementary school came when reading a book together and discussing it.  Maybe you have a favorite book that you liked as a child and want to share it with them.  The time reading together helps with the building of vocabulary, comprehension and fluency.   Another activity that is fun to do is to write a letter to someone since everyone loves getting “real” mail.  Maybe it will be a thank you for a gift, maybe write a letter to the new president and share your thoughts, or even write to a soldier and thank them for serving our country.  The best gift to give your children is your time!

I hope you can join our PTO zoom meetings every month.  We like to come up with fun activities for families through zoom!  January 19th will be our next one.

Thank you to our families and for all you have done to help us stay safe through COVID-19!  We are blessed to be in school as it isn’t happening everywhere throughout our country!

Mrs. Coy

Important Reminders

Morning drop off time is 7:45.  Please be aware that district guidelines changed and we are no longer doing morning temperature checks.

Masks are required when on school property and entering school building.

Arrival/Drop Off – Please pull up to the curb at your designated entrance of the building to drop off students.

Reminders of Door Entrances by Grade Level:

K & 3rd grades  – 3rd Street, North side of building

1 & 4th grades – 2nd Street – South side of building

2 & 5th grades – Madison Street – East side of building

For safety reasons, we don’t want students to have to cross the street. For example, plan your drop off on the same side as the school.

If you drop off on 2nd street – please drop off heading west toward Jackson.

If dropping off on 3rd street – please drop off heading east toward Madison.

If dropping off on Madison street – head south toward 2nd and 1st streets.

We are so worried about students getting dropped off across the street and not crossing at the appropriate sidewalk.

Also, students should get out of the car door closest to the school near the curb.   Please make those arrangements prior to leaving for school.   This will prevent students from having to walk around the car to come to their entrance.

Student Computer Guidelines

Computers need to be brought to school every day fully charged.

It is really important for students to let the device shut down completely before closing the lid.  This lets the updates complete, and keeps the device running smoothly.

School issued computers, chargers and cases need to be returned when a student leaves the district/before the last day of school. The following damage/loss fees apply: Computer $350.00, Charger $21.00, Case $20.00, Hotspot up to $240, hotspot charger $10.00.

Accelerated Reader Incentive for Grades 2-5

Students in grades 2 – 5  who reach their second quarter AR goal will have the opportunity  to paint on canvas with Mrs. Steiner, our amazing art teacher.  Mrs. Steiner will be giving directions by remote instruction on January 29th.  Students will have hot chocolate too.   We are hoping ALL students will make their goal!!!
