Dear Franklin Falcon Families/Guardians,
As always, October came and went in a blur, and we leap right into the holiday season! We had several exciting activities in October. We had our Pumpkin Patch field trip for students, Safety Week of practice drills, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Academic Awards, a Bully-Free Presentation, PTO Freddy’s fundraiser night , 2 hour weather delay (no breakfast will be served on these days), STUCO can drive, PTO Movie night and our Halloween parade and classroom parties. Thank you to all of our families for attending and supporting the events.
Although the district hosts parent/teacher conferences in the fall and spring, the staff feels that communication should be frequent and ongoing. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to discuss progress. Our teachers use a variety of tools to share student progress and classroom happenings, such as monthly/weekly newsletters, e-mails, Franklin Elementary facebook, Franklin PTO facebook, and class DOJO.
Students will be going outside for recess unless the temperature with wind chill is below 20 degrees. Please make sure they are wearing their hats, gloves and coats.
Our fast pace doesn’t seem to slow down as November brings more exciting times. November will bring Veteran’s Day, 2nd/3rd Grade Music Program and a Family Math Night.
We are thankful for our families and look forward to the fall break to celebrate Thanksgiving. Please be mindful that student attendance is very important. The district plans the week of break so family trips can be taken during that time without missing any school. Since our days are fewer in the month, please make sure your students are in here every school day as we miss them when they are not here.
Franklin Falcons students, staff and families are the BEST!
Counselor’s Corner by Ms. Meg Roe
October has traditionally been slated as the time schools recognize “anti-bullying”. When I talk to each classroom of our Franklin Falcons each week, I always ask, “Is October the only month we need to be aware of anti-bullying strategies?” I’m always answered with a resounding chorus of “NOOOO!!”
Even though our smart and aware Falcons understand this, in whole group counseling, we did use the month of October to introduce and review core concepts of what bullying is and isn’t ( it isn’t only mean, rough, or hurtful behavior- it is such an action repeated in a pattern with an obvious imbalance of power); how to use The Three R’s (Recognize, Report, Refuse); and the types of bullying ( physical, verbal, mental, cyber).
For the October culminating, whole-school activity, several 5th graders, including representatives from the Falcon StuCo and Champs Jobs program, made and presented a video telling why all the interventions we use at Franklin can help us be a “Bully-Proof” school!
Music Notes from Miss Jackson
Great things are happening in the music room. 2nd and 3rd grade are busy preparing their Jungle Boogie music program. 4th and 5th grade have started their modern band unit that includes learning keyboard, guitar, and drum set. In addition, our young learners are discovering the wonders of music through dancing, singing, and playing instruments.
