September Newsletter

Greetings Falcon Family,

Happy New School Year!  I am honored and excited to be returning as your building principal and serve the Franklin community.  The students seem to have had a great summer and are happy to return to school.  We missed them!  We have few things to celebrate as we start the year:

• Our Back to School night was well attended and the energy from both staff and families was very positive!

• We welcome Mrs. Beets as our new 5th grade teacher and Mrs. Balderrama as the 3 – 5th grade special education teacher.

•Our PTO has started with a full board of officers and are excited for our first meeting which is a Meet and Greet with pizza for families on September 5 from 5:30 – 6:30.

•Students will continue to have the opportunity to apply for CHAMPS jobs such as library assistant,  nurse helper,  door greeter, etc.  Applications will be coming soon.

•Franklin students will continue participating in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program.

• 4th and 5th grade students will have the opportunity to run for a STUCO position.

• We will continue our community relationship with the Nazarene Church.  They will be  volunteering during our recess and lunch times.

Franklin staff wants to build  relationships with our families.  There are many ways to be involved as everyone’s schedule looks different.  Some suggestions are:

•Volunteer in the classrooms or library

•Eat lunch with your child

•Help a classroom teacher at home by cutting out letters, etc…

•Attend building – wide events such as freedom walk,  academic awards, etc.

•Attend and support PTO activities

•Spending time with your child before school and after school

•Other… just ask and we’ll be happy to find a way to use your talent!

In closing, please stop by or call as I have an open door policy.  I like to

hear how we are doing and if there is anything we can do to make it better!

Thanks for sharing your child with us!

Mrs. Becky Coy, Franklin Elementary School Principal

Counselor’s Corner

Your Franklin School Counselor, Ms. Megan Roe, is thrilled and grateful to announce the opening of the first and exciting Falcon Counseling Center, located on our upper level in Room 27!  Although still “under construction”, all visitors are welcome to stop by to look around and chat.

Upon entering the “Land of Ah Ha’s”, visitors notice the space is delineated to reflect the three KSDE domains of School Counseling: Social Emotional Character Development, Academic Support, and Career Exploration.  Shortened to the Feeling, Thinking, and Doing Centers, all Falcons will have the opportunity to participate and grow in all three comprehensive areas throughout the school year.

Several classes have already participated in Tier 1, whole-class, school counseling lessons in the fun, new, space while Tier 2, small group meetings, and Tier 3, individual sessions, are also in full swing, with many more to be scheduled.  New parent request / consent forms for Tier 2 & 3 school counseling will be available in the front office.

All Falcons, Grades 1-5, are being presented with the opportunity to apply for specific categories of meaningful work known as “Champs Jobs”!  During weekly, whole class counseling lessons, School Counselor and Champs Jobs Coordinator, Ms. Megan Roe, has been encouraging students to discover how our building-level Champs Jobs announcement, application, hiring, and subsequent working process correlates to real-world job seeking, placement, and employment.

Students have been busy and engaged learning about and applying for Champs Jobs vacancies that most closely match his or her interests, needs, and availability.  All Quarter 1 Champs Jobs new hires will be featured on the large Champs Jobs bulletin board located in the first level hallway, outside the front office and gym, and will be published in the October family newsletter!
